BUSA Championships 2008 (March 16, 2008)
The BUSA Indoor Championships kicked off in Sheffield yesterday. The Jumps in the region were well represented and produced some medal winning performances.
Lloyd Powell (Teesside University) took the gold medal in the men's high jump. Lloyd cleared 1m95cm with no fouls and took three good attempts at 2m00cm in order to maintain his record of clearing this height for all competitions in this indoor season.
Lloyd went extremely close however on this occassion had to succumb to the height but claimed his prize of gold medal and BUSA Champion 2008 by courtesy of his excellent record of clearing all previous heights on the first attempt. 2nd place was 1m95cm and 3rd 1m90cm.
Ade Babatunde (Teesside University) also progressed another level in the Triple Jump. After a shaky start during qualification Ade upped his game and, in an excellent competition, justified his North East ranking by jumping a new indoor P.B and winning the bronze medal.
Graham Jackson (Northumbria University), competing in the same competition, was a creditable fourth with a seasons best of 14m37cm.
Teesside University were also represented in the final of the womens 60m courtesy of Faye Winspear who having run a season's best of 7.98 in both the heats and semi-finals finished eighth in the final with 8.02 sec.
Sunday sees the prospect of another good day for Teesside Uni as both Ricky Stevenson and Jonathan Taylor qualified magnificently for the 3000m both winning their heats commandingly. Click here to return to the News page
